Our curriculum

At Doddinghurst Infant School, our enquiry-based curriculum is at the heart of everything we do, designed to inspire a love of learning and equip our children with the skills and knowledge they need to thrive.

Guided by the National Curriculum and our core values of Self-Belief, Happiness, Independence, Nurture, and Excellence, we aim to ensure that every child reaches their full potential and are able to embrace a lifelong love of learning and SHINE.

Intent

Our curriculum is carefully designed to be both skills-based and knowledge-rich, providing a strong foundation for our children’s academic, social, and emotional development.

We aim to:

  • Foster self-belief by building confidence and resilience, enabling all our children to face challenges with a positive mind-set.
  • Promote happiness through an engaging, inclusive, and creative curriculum that celebrates individuality and success.
  • Encourage independence by equipping children with essential skills, nurturing curiosity and fostering critical thinking.
  • Create a nurturing environment, ensuring our pupils feel supported and valued within a caring and safe setting.
  • Aspire to excellence, encouraging high standards in all areas of learning and instilling pride in achievements.

Our curriculum provides meaningful experiences that allow our children to explore, question, and deepen their understanding of the world around them. It ensures a balance between mastering key skills and building a deep, interconnected knowledge base.

Implementation

Our curriculum is delivered through:

  • Engaging and structured learning experiences that are designed to spark curiosity, creativity, and a love of learning.
  • A focus on core skills such as communication, problem-solving, and collaboration, ensuring progression across all subjects.
  • Outdoor learning opportunities that connect our children with their local environment and encourage exploration and inquiry.
  • An emphasis on nurturing relationships, where our teachers and support staff model empathy, respect, and positive behaviour.
  • Regular assessment and feedback to guide each child’s individual journey, ensuring that they are challenged and supported.

We take pride in providing a curriculum that reflects the unique character of our village community while introducing our children to the diversity of the wider world.

Impact

Our curriculum equips children with the confidence, skills, and knowledge to:

  • Believe in themselves and approach learning with curiosity and determination.
  • Develop into happy, well-rounded individuals, ready to embrace new opportunities and challenges.
  • Demonstrate growing independence, taking responsibility for their learning and actions.
  • Build strong, nurturing relationships and show care for others and their environment.
  • Strive for excellence in all areas, taking pride in their achievements and aspiring to reach their full potential.

The impact of our curriculum is measured by the progress children make from their individual starting points, ensuring that every child achieves exceptionally well. This includes providing tailored support and opportunities for all children, including those who are disadvantaged or have special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

By fostering an inclusive and nurturing environment, we enable every learner to reach their full potential, celebrating their achievements and providing them with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed.

By the time our children leave us, they are confident, compassionate, and enthusiastic learners, well-prepared for the next stage of their education and ready to make a positive contribution to their community and the wider world.
