Art

At Doddinghurst Infant School, our vision for Art is to nurture creativity, self-expression, and confidence in every child. Through a rich and inspiring curriculum, we provide opportunities for pupils to explore a range of artistic techniques, materials, and styles, encouraging them to develop their individual artistic voice. Our approach is deeply rooted in our school values:

Shine – We inspire children to take pride in their artistic achievements, building self-confidence as they express themselves creatively and celebrate their unique talents.

Happiness – Through engaging and enjoyable art experiences, children develop a love for creativity, fostering emotional well-being and positive connections with others.

Independence – We encourage children to explore their own ideas, experiment with different media, and take ownership of their creative journey with confidence and curiosity.

Nurture – Our supportive environment allows every child to feel valued and encouraged, helping them develop resilience and a growth mindset as they refine their artistic skills.

Excellence – We strive to provide high-quality art experiences that introduce children to a wide range of artists and cultural influences, inspiring them to achieve their best and appreciate the value of artistic expression.

Implementation

Our Art curriculum is designed to meet the requirements of the National Curriculum while reflecting our core values of self-belief, happiness, independence, nurture, and excellence. Using a mastery approach, we ensure all children have the opportunity to develop a deep and secure understanding of artistic concepts and skills.

Our lessons provide children with hands-on experiences using a variety of materials and techniques, including drawing, painting, and sculpture. We adapt resources and teaching methods to meet the needs of individual children, ensuring that every learner can engage, progress, and succeed.

Through our enquiry questions and key concepts including exploration, creativity, and evaluation, children are encouraged to express themselves, develop confidence, and appreciate the work of great artists, craft makers, and designers. By fostering independence and creativity in a supportive environment, we aim to inspire a lifelong love of Art and the confidence to celebrate their unique talents.
