At Doddinghurst Infant School our vision for P.E ( Physical Education) pupils should develop fundamental movement skills, become increasingly competent and confident and access a broad range of opportunities to extend their agility, balance and coordination; individually and with others. They should be able to engage in competitive (both against self and against others) and co-operative physical activities, in a range of increasingly challenging situations. We intend to make our pupils aware of their physical and mental health.
• Shine – children will manifest in a variety of ways, both in physical actions and mental attitudes. It involves a sense of confidence and trust in one’s abilities, as well as the motivation to try new challenges and improve. • Happiness – is evident when children are excited, confident, and fully immersed in physical activities. It’s about enjoying the movement, fostering positive relationships with others, and feeling a sense of achievement and well-being.
• Independence – we endeaver are children to take responsibility for their own learning, decision-making, and actions. It involves demonstrating self-reliance and confidence, both in their physical abilities and in their approach to activities in a competitive and non-competitive nature. • Nurture – is about ensuring that every student feels included, regardless of their skill level. Teachers create a space where everyone, whether skilled or not, can participate in activities and games. It's about celebrating diversity and making sure no one feels left out.
• Excellence – we strive to do our absolute best, continually improving, setting high standards, and showing respect for others. It encompasses not only physical achievement but also dedication, attitude, leadership, and perseverance.
Implementation
We implement our P.E curriculum using the Primary P.E Planning, which provides a progressive, spiral approach that ensures consistency and depth of learning across our infant school. Our teaching is inclusive to all children in physical education. It is not only focused on physical development but also fosters an environment where inclusion is prioritized, and all students can fully engage and thrive. adapting lessons to meet the diverse needs of our pupils, including those with SEND and EAL
Our mastery approach encourages children to think and learn for themselves to apply their skills across the curriculum. In PE we could link enriched vocabulary from science and linking to a dance sequence or using positional language, apply to gymnastic equipment. PE is carefully differentiated and provides age appropriate challenges.
Effective mastery in PE encourages all pupils, regardless of their ability, to apply a broad range of skills, across a wide range of different sports. Those who achieve mastery in PE are also able to articulate and demonstrate the importance and impact of exercise on creating and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
